Feed capabilities

Endpoints and channels available in the indices feed. Field-level details vary by endpoint; see the docs for nullability and optional fields.

Index levelsIndicative bid and ask via /indices/quote, with last print and change metrics via /indices/snapshot.
OHLCV aggregatesMinute, hourly and daily bars via /indices/agg. Volume can be null, since an index has no consolidated volume.
WebSocket channelsindices.quotes and indices.trades, same subscribe pattern as every other feed.
Symbols endpoint/indices/symbols returns each code with its name and an aggregates flag that says whether it has bars.

Inside the indices feed

Field for field, the exact responses the API returns. What you see here is what production sends.

Latest quote

Indicative bid and ask for the benchmark. An index has no order book, so read sizes as indicative, not as depth.

  • Indicative bid and ask for every benchmark
  • Millisecond timestamps on every response
  • Generic codes with no market prefix: US500, DE40, JP225
  • Identical shape across every asset class

Use index levels alongside stocks, ETFs, forex and other feeds with the same REST and WebSocket patterns.

Benchmark charts

Daily and intraday bars for broad market charts and comparison lines next to a holding.

Market overview screens

One snapshot call per benchmark fills a world markets board with level and change.

Macro context and alerts

Stream US500, USDX and USVOL as a backdrop for monitoring, and fire alerts on level moves.

Research and backtesting

Pull historical bars to measure a strategy or a portfolio against its benchmark.

Delayed price, chart and key figures for popular symbols, with the exact API calls that return them live.

Ask about coverage, limits, or the right plan for your use case.

What does the indices market data API return?

Indicative levels for major benchmarks as JSON: the latest bid and ask, the last print, snapshots with change metrics, and OHLCV bars. The same data streams over WebSocket on indices.quotes and indices.trades.

Which indices are covered?

Major benchmarks from the US, Europe and Asia, such as US500, US30, DE40, UK100 and JP225, plus the dollar index USDX and the volatility index USVOL. GET /indices/symbols returns the list enabled for your key.

Why do index symbols use generic codes?

Index names are trademarks, so each index is published under a generic code: a region and, usually, the number of companies in the basket. Codes carry no market prefix: write HK33, never HK:HK33. Read the name field rather than guessing from the digits.

Are these official index values?

No. Index levels on TickerLayer are indicative, derived reference values for analytics and display, not official values published by an index provider. Methodology and observed behaviour are on the indices data quality page.

Why is volume empty on some index bars?

v may be null when no consolidated volume exists for the interval. Codes marked "aggregates": false in /indices/symbols have no bars at all, so check that flag before you chart a code.

Are indices and ETFs the same feed?

No. They are two feeds with their own prices and plans, on the same API key. An index is a calculated level; an ETF is a traded fund with quotes and trades of its own. See the ETFs market data page for the other feed.
