Stock market holidays 2027: 10 closures and one early close

Juneteenth, Independence Day and Christmas fall on a weekend in 2027, so the market closes on Friday 18 June, Monday 5 July and Friday 24 December instead. The one early close is the day after Thanksgiving; 2 July and 23 December are full stock sessions.

How many trading days are in 2027 splits the 251 by month.

Is the stock market open on Veterans Day and Columbus Day?

Yes. The US stock market trades normal hours on Veterans Day, Wednesday 11 November 2026 and Thursday 11 November 2027, and on Columbus Day, Monday 11 October 2027. The bond market closes on all three: its schedule includes every federal holiday, while the stock market’s calendar leaves these two out.

Official US Treasury yields skip bond market holidays such as 11 November; bond yields explained covers those daily observations.

Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Christmas week hours

The stock market and the bond market are both closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday 26 November 2026 and Thursday 25 November 2027.

Is the stock market open on Black Friday?

Yes, until 1 p.m. ET (18:00 UTC) on Friday 27 November 2026 and Friday 26 November 2027, three hours before the 4 p.m. close of normal stock market hours. After-hours trading then runs from 1 to 5 p.m. ET, and bonds stop at 2 p.m.

Is the stock market open on Christmas Eve?

In 2026, yes, until 1 p.m. ET on Thursday 24 December, with bonds until 2 p.m. In 2027, no: Christmas falls on a Saturday, so both markets close on Friday 24 December, and bonds stop at 2 p.m. on the 23rd.

Is the stock market open on New Year’s Eve?

Yes, for a full session on Thursday 31 December 2026 and Friday 31 December 2027, while the bond market closes at 2 p.m. ET in both years. Abroad, the same three days look like this:

London also closes on Monday 28 December 2026 and on 27 and 28 December 2027, and Hong Kong on 27 December 2027. Frankfurt, Tokyo and Seoul shut on New Year’s Eve in both years; London market hours and holidays lists the UK year.

Bond market holidays 2026 and 2027

The bond market closes on 12 weekdays in 2027: the 10 stock market holidays plus Columbus Day and Veterans Day. It closes at 2 p.m. ET on six more: Thursday 25 March, Friday 28 May, Friday 2 July, Friday 26 November, Thursday 23 December and Friday 31 December.

For the rest of 2026 it closes on 11 and 26 November and 25 December, and at 2 p.m. ET on 27 November and 24 and 31 December. SIFMA, the bond industry’s association, published the 2027 dates in December 2025 as recommendations, not rules. TickerLayer’s holiday calendar covers stock markets, not this schedule.

London, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Hong Kong in 2027

London closes on 1 January, 26 and 29 March, 3 and 31 May, 30 August and 27 and 28 December, with half days ending at 12:30 London time on 24 and 31 December. Frankfurt closes on 1 January, 26 and 29 March and 24 and 31 December.

Tokyo closes on 17 weekdays, in every month but June; its only run of consecutive closures is Golden Week, 3 to 5 May. Hong Kong closes on 13 weekdays, including 8 and 9 February for the lunar new year, and trades mornings only on 5 February and 24 and 31 December. All four official lists match the API row for row, and Japan market hours and holidays shows Tokyo’s.

Mumbai, Shanghai and Dubai: 2027 not in the calendar yet

For India, China and the UAE the API returns an empty 2027 list marked completeness: "partial": India’s 2027 exchange holidays were not yet published, and its 2026 list came out in December 2025. Treat any 2027 date there as unknown, not open.

When is the stock market closed? The rules behind the dates

The US stock market is closed on weekends and on 10 weekday holidays in both 2026 and 2027. A holiday that falls on a weekend moves: from Saturday to the Friday before, from Sunday to the Monday after.

One exception keeps Friday 31 December 2027 open. New Year’s Day 2028 is a Saturday, and the official calendar notes that "no New Year’s Day holiday is observed", so the year ends on a full session for stocks and a 2 p.m. close for bonds.

Good Friday is not a federal holiday, yet the stock market closes on it in every published year: 3 April 2026, 26 March 2027 and 14 April 2028. Tokyo moves Sunday holidays to the Monday, which is why Vernal Equinox Day closes it on Monday 22 March 2027.

The weekend column is Frankfurt’s 1 May, 25 and 26 December. For open or closed right now, use GET /markets/status from the exchange calendar API guide; AI agents get the same calendar from the MCP tool get_market_holidays.

Before you trade or schedule jobs around a holiday

  • Convert early closes to UTC: 1 p.m. ET is 18:00 UTC in late November and December, and after-hours ends at 22:00 UTC.
  • Treat completeness: "partial" or an empty list as unknown, never as a year without holidays.
  • Read the calendar in code instead of hard-coding it: responses note that calendars "may change".
  • Compare dates in the market’s own time zone: Tokyo’s 31 December starts at 15:00 UTC on the 30th.
  • Perpetual futures and crypto trade through every holiday, so a 24/7 price can move while its stock market is shut.
