Frequently asked questions
What can I paste?
Tickers, currency pairs, crypto pairs, index codes, and instrument names. Formats from other tools work too, so a list exported with venue suffixes or slash-separated pairs is fine. Put one per line, or separate them with commas.
Do I need an account?
No. The check is open, and nothing is required before you see the result. An API key is only needed when you start making calls with the symbols it gives you.
Why does a symbol come back in a different format?
The catalog is optimized for reading, and the API is optimized for being unambiguous. Equities are market qualified so similar codes in different countries never collide, while pairs and index codes stay bare. The check always returns the exact form the API expects, which is the whole reason to run it before you integrate.
What does a closest match mean?
It means your input was not a code we accept, and a search of our own catalog found something that may be what you meant. It is a suggestion for you to confirm, never an automatic substitution, and it is not counted as covered until you accept it.
What happens to symbols you do not cover?
You can send them to us in one step from the result. We evaluate new symbols and markets through aggregation and demand-based access, so a request that comes from a real integration directly influences what gets added next.
Is this official exchange data?
No. TickerLayer provides indicative market data intended for informational, analytical, and integration use. It should not be presented to your users as official, exchange-sourced data or used as a system of record for regulated workflows.
